Gillian Sze is the author of several collections of poetry and chapbooks. Her most recent, Panicle (ECW Press, 2017), was described by Jen Sookfong Lee as a “collection of poems that are like jewel boxes: precise, specific and perfectly contained.” She has twice been a finalist for the QWF A. M. Klein Prize for Poetry and has previously served as a poetry judge for This Magazine’s Great Canadian Literary Hunt and the National Magazine Awards. Sze studied Creative Writing and Literature at Concordia and earned a Ph.D. from the Université de Montréal. You can find out more about Gillian Sze here.

Billy-Ray Belcourt has published numerous poems and scholarly works publicly and in journals. His debut collection of poetry, This Wound is a World(Frontenac House, 2017) won the Griffin Poetry Prize, the Robert Kroetsch City of Edmonton Book Prize, and the Indigenous Voices Award for Most Significant Book of Poetry in English. The Griffin judges’ citation describes This Wound is a World as “chart[ing] the constellations of queerness and indigeneity, rebellion and survival, desire and embodiedness.” Belcourt is pursuing a Ph.D. at the University of Alberta. About the Award

The bpNichol Chapbook Award recognizes excellence in Canadian poetry in English published in chapbook form within Canada. The prize is awarded to a poetry chapbook judged to be the best submitted. The author receives $4,000 and the publisher receives $500. Awarded continuously since 1986, the bpNichol Chapbook Award is currently administered by the Meet the Presses collective.
